RF over Fiber (RFoF) technology modulates light with analog RF signals, transmitting them over fiber optic cables to overcome traditional coaxial limitations. It enables low-loss, long-distance communication (up to 100+ km) with high bandwidth, immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI), and lightweight deployment, making it ideal for antenna remoting, satellite, and 5G.

  • Optical Wavelength: Typically 1310 nm or 1550 nm, with 1550 nm often preferred for lower loss.
  • Dynamic Range (SFDR): Measures the ability to handle both small and large signals without distortion.
  • Noise Figure (NF): Critical for maintaining signal sensitivity in weak-signal reception (uplink).
  • Gain Stability: Essential to behave like a transparent, lossless cable.
Common Applications
  • Antenna Remoting/SIGINT: Placing antennas in remote, secure, or elevated positions (e.g., cell towers, radar).
  • Satellite Communications (Satcom): Connecting antennas to control facilities.
  • Broadcast and CATV: Distributing television signals.
