A Cellular Distributed Antenna System (DAS) is an in-building or outdoor network of small, strategically placed antennas connected to a central source that boosts the cellular signal. It eliminates dead zones, improves 5G coverage, and increases capacity in large venues like stadiums, logistics centers, and office buildings.

Key Aspects of Cellular DAS:

  • How it Works: It takes an existing cellular signal (via a rooftop antenna or small cell), amplifies it, and distributes it throughout a building, overcoming interference from materials like concrete and steel.
  • Components: A DAS typically consists of a signal source (carrier service or antenna), a central hub (head-end), and a network of distributed antennas connected by cables or fiber.
  • Types:
    • iDAS (Indoor): Boosts signal inside buildings.
    • oDAS (Outdoor): Enhances coverage in specific outdoor areas like college campuses.
  • Applications: Essential for high-density, large-scale environments such as convention centers and high-rise buildings.
  • Public Safety: Ensures reliable, code-compliant communication for first responders within large structures.
